18 things I learned at 18.

These lessons helped me grow so much.

Last year I turned eighteen. And the gift I received was a curfew of eight months and counting. Not a really great birthday gift right?

But this lockdown gave me an ample amount of free time. And what did I do in this free time you ask? The answer is simple: nothing.

No wait I did try to do a lot of things but ended up back in square one. Thanks to my inconsistent self.

Or maybe the only thing I succeeded in doing was zone out and think about life, possibilities, goals, and many other things that I would have probably achieved if I hadn’t wasted my time. But zoning out made me do one thing and that was to analyze what I had learned.

There are a few things I realized this year. And they go as follows:

1. Cut out toxic people from your life.

2. People’s opinions do NOT matter AT ALL.

3. Your grades don’t define you.

4. Always try to learn new skills.

5. Your mental and physical health should be your top priority.

6. Being self-aware is necessary.

7. Reading every day is a must.

8. Always strive to be financially independent.

9. It is very important to stay consistent.

10. Not all people live the life they show on social media.

11. You will not always get what you want.

12. Not everything in life is permanent.

13. It’s okay to make wrong decisions.

14. Self-love isn’t selfish.

15. The decisions that our parents take for us may sometimes be wrong but never their intentions.

16. One shouldn't be really introverted or extremely extroverted. There should be a balance.

17. Everyone has their own beliefs and principles in life and we should respect them.

18. Motivation is temporary, discipline is permanent.

If I really compare my 17 and 18-year-old selves, the difference in my personality, my perception is crystal clear. And I genuinely feel that as a person I have shown immense growth.

Since it's already thirteen days into 2021 and I know I am a bit late for ‘ new year new me’ posts but this year I am going to be more optimistic, more lively, and overall a better person!
